The Yellow Edge Grouper, also commonly known as the Deep Water Yellowfin Grouper (not to be confused with the Yellowfin Grouper), lives in very deep water, generally between 450 – 850 feet deep. They live near the continental shelf, and feed on large bottom dwellers including: squid, octopus, crab, eel, lizardfish, seahorses, scorpionfish and searobins.
The Yellow Edge Grouper is a Protogynous Hermaphrodite. Their life span is about 20 years, during which time they will grow up to 30# and up to 45” in length. The world’s record specimen was caught in Destin, Florida, and weighed 41#, 1 oz.
