The Gulf King Fish is regionally referred to as Whiting. They are prevalent in coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico close to the shore, as well as in estuaries. They can be found in water from 5 to 30 feet deep. They are members of the Drum and Croaker family of fish. Their range is from Virginia south to Brazil. They will grow to a length of 20”. Although they are caught commercially, they make up a minor portion of the fishing industry. They are more commonly harvested as a sport fish
