The Black Margate, also known as the Surf Bream and Black Bream range from Florida to Brazil, however, they are mainly found in the Caribbean. During my research I ran across a web site from Belize, where they are found in great numbers, and are a big sport fish.
Although, the average catch is about half the size, the Black Margate can grow to about 10#. They feed at nigh on small lobsters, crustaceans, mollusks, smaller fish and sea urchins.
In April, they come together in massive schools to spawn.
The Black Margate is an excellent fish to eat. Many fishermen will find a school of these fish, catch what they will eat, and then fish in the same place at deeper depths as larger fish such as Barracuda and Shark are generally in the same area at the same time.
